Will the Fresh Prince go Stale before ID4 sequel gets made?

There’s been talk of an “Independence Day” sequel since, well, the days of Patrick’s old Corona’s Coming Attractions site. In recent years, the talk of a follow-up to Fox’s huge money-spinner of 1996 ramped up again with word leaking that director Roland Emmerich had cooked up the tale for a further two films plus begun negotiations with the now super-pricey Will Smith. Unfortunately, that’s where the talks might end.

Emmerich now says the “Independence Day” sequel isn’t likely to happen anytime soon… or rather that it’s “nowhere”.

”Independence Day 2 is nowhere… It’s back and forth, back and forth. There’s no script because I don’t want to write anything before anything starts”, the filmmaker tells Empire.

Emmerich does state that “One Day it Will Happen”.

For the moment, he’s feeling much more positive about his long-gestating take on Isaac Asimov’s none-more-cerebral space odyssey, “Foundation”.

“We’ve hired a production designer and it’s mainly now to find out what the movie will cost. It’ll take us until the end of March, then we’ll decide. The studio’s happy with the script, but now’s the time that the numbers count. I want to make a movie that’s very different from other science-fiction movies and I don’t want to have the burden of too big a budget.”
