Anton Yelchin (1989-2016)

“Star Trek” star Anton Yelchin is dead after being hit by his own car in the driveway of his California home.

The 27 year-old died soon after his car rolled backwards down a steep driveway, pinning him against a brick mailbox and security gate.

Yelchin, whose new film “Star Trek Beyond” is released next month, was supposed to be at a rehearsal a few hours earlier. When he didn’t show, friends went to check on him at house and found him deceased by the side of his car. He was pronounced dead at the scene 1:10 am Sunday morning.

The Russian born actor has been acting since a youngster, appearing in such films as “Along Came a Spider” and “Hearts in Atlantis” before going on to star in “Alpha Dog”, “Charlie Bartlett”, “Star Trek”, “Terminator Salvation”, “Like Crazy”, “The Beaver”, “Fright Night”, “Odd Thomas”, “Cymberline” and “Dying of the Light”. His more recent films include “Burying the Ex”, “Experimenter”, “Broken Horses”, “Green Room” and “Star Trek Beyond” – opening July 22. He also voiced ‘Clumsy Surf’ in two “Smurfs” movies, and had voiced the lead in the recently announced animated series “Trollhunters” for Netflix.

The talented actor’s “Trek” family, as well as other actors and filmmakers that had worked with Yelchin, lit up Twitter today with their heartfelt tributes.
