The ever-watchable Christoph Waltz will reportedly be a part of the next big cash-vacuum, ”Alita : Battle Angel” says THR. With James Cameron on producing duties, and Robert Rodriguez playing director, the film adaptation of the long-running Manga series is sure to look spiffy – – with Waltz being courted for the role, we know it’ll also encompass some class.
For the unversed, the flick – beginning production in the Fall for a 2018 release – takes place in the 26th century and centers around a female cyborg named Alita, who is discovered in a junkyard by a scientist with no memories of her past, save for her lethal martial-arts training. Using her rediscoved skills, she becomes a bounty hunter and hunts down the some of the world’s worst criminals. Newcomer Rosa Salazar has been cast as Alita, while Django Unchained scene-stealer Waltz would be her mentor/cybersurgeon, Dyson Ido.
At one stage, many many years ago, James Cameron was going to direct the movie himself with everyone from Jessica Alba to Cameron-fave Arnold Schwarzenegger rumoured to be atop of his wish list to lead the cast.
