New Candyman cast; Tony Todd gives blessing

Producer Jordan Peele’s “Candyman” reboot has found its buzz-worthy (geddit?) lead.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, recently in “Aquaman”, has been cast in the role originated by Tony Todd in the original trilogy of films. By the sounds of things, Abdul-Mateen II will be the same incarnation of the character – just like Brandon Routh was playing Christopher Reeve’s version of Superman – in what’s being described as a “spiritual sequel” to the 1992 classic.

In the Nia DaCosta-directed film, the mirror-loving fiend returns to the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood. Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld are producing via Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions.

Filming is expected to kick off in the spring for a June 12th 2020 release.
