Assassin’s Creed finds female lead in Ariane Labed

Ariane Labed is a lock to star opposite Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in “Assassin’s Creed”.

Justin Kurzel is directing the live-action adaptation of the Ubisoft video game which centres on Desmond Miles, captured by a secret organization with ties to the Knight Templar, who repeatedly send Miles back in time into the body of his assassin ancestors to retrieve valuable historical artifacts.

Ariane Labed replaces Alicia Vikander in the role. She was forced to drop out of the project due to scheduling conflicts with the new “Bourne” film.

Bill Collage, Adam Cooper and Michael Lesslie penned the screenplay. Producers are Frank Marshall, Arnon Milchan, Jean-Julien Baronnet, Conor McCaughan, Fassbender and Pat Crowley.

Production will get underway in the early fall with a release date of December 21, 2016 lined up.

Deadline first reported the news.
