Bill and Ted returning!

Don’t get too excited

Here’s the good news: the long hankered for third “Bill and Ted” movie has been greenlit.

Here’s the bad news: It’s going direct-to-video and won’t star Alex Winter or Keanu Reeves.

The news came courtesy the LA Times who says MGM and 360 Pictures, under the guidance of Frank Mancuso Jr, are already prepping the return of the bodacious time-travelling dags. The script, by Gabe Grifoni and Suzanne Francis (“Wieners”), is already complete.

From the sounds of it, this will be closer to a remake than a sequel.

Both Alex Winter (now a budding filmmaker) and Keanu Reeves were keen to reprise their roles in a third film – following “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” and “Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey” – but Reeves’ agent was apparently the guy who squashed the bug before it could fly, fearing it’d ruin the “Matrix” stars career. He could’ve been right. Still, won’t be the same without ‘em.

If that film had gone ahead, Reeves had some good ideas up his sleeve.
“You know, I’ve always thought we should do it when we’re 40, because those two at 40 would be funny.
“He [Winter] and I have spoken about it. But you know what, we don’t own the material, so it’s not up to us. We just play the parts, man. But it would be funny to see them, fat and 40, singing in an airport hotel lounge.”
