By George, Greengrass is on 1984

While not as hot on the excitement-meter as the announcement that he’d be returning to the ‘Bourne’ franchise, this is still doozie news for fans of Paul Greengrass. And for that matter, George Orwell’s “1984”.

Per Deadline, Greengrass will helm an adaptation of Orwell’s classic novel for Sony, which James Graham (writer of Broadway’s “Finding Neverland”) will pen. Scott Rudin, who collaborated with Greengrass on “Captain Phillips”, will produce.

“1984” was previously turned into a flick back in it’s titular year, 1984; the dystopian thriller starred John Hurt as a man who, hoping to rewrite history, rebels against his repressive society by falling in love with a woman.

In the new version, Matt Damon will play the woman. Okay, I’m joking… but he could do it. You know he could. He can do anything. He’s Matt Damon.
