Clueless TV series planned…with a twist

In the realm of “Riverdale” taking innocent comic book characters to a dark, dark place, “Clueless” is taking a similar route – with a spinoff TV series planned to turn the comedy into a mystery drama at CBS Studios.

Per Deadline, the hour-long series is described as a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sunglasses-wearing, oat milk latté and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when the high school queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong No. 2 Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans. How does Dionne deal with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school, while also unraveling the mystery of what happened to her best friend, all in a setting that is uniquely 2020 L.A.?

Sounds super confusing and well outside the world of “Clueless” that we all adored in the ’90s, so will be interesting to see where they take it.

The new “Clueless” will be written by Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey (of “Will and Grace” fame).

Apart from the 1995 film starring Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd and Brittany Murphy, “Clueless” was also adapted into a 1996 half-hour comedy series, created by the director Amy Heckerling. It ran for three seasons, one on ABC and two on UPN.
