Coming to America actor turns down sequel

While it’s hard to go past Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall’s turns in “Coming to America” (1988), “E.R” star Eric La Salle definitely gave the duo a tight run for their money as Obnoxious, curly-haired cool-cat Darryl.

When news of a sequel got out, the studio was quick to confirm most of the original cast would be back – Murphy and Hall, of course, but also John Amos, James Earl Jones, Shari Headey and a couple of Barbers – but there’s been one name that hasn’t yet come up.

….And that’s because La Salle has reportedly passed on playing Darryl Jenks.

At a recent NBC press day for “Chicago P.D” (per The Grio), the 57 year-old actor was asked whether or not he’d be bringing back the Soul-Glow for the upcoming Craig Brewer-directed sequel.

“No,” he said he told a handful of journalists when asked if he would be returning. “I’ve already given you an answer. No.”

The reporters were a little bummed, so he elaborated.

“Straight to the point. I knew where you were going with it,” he said. “I’m a little busy right now …with this show.”

“Coming to America 2” will be released August 7, 2020.
