Dark Phoenix just got delayed again!

Seemingly more confident in the film than [cough] we are, Fox have pushed “X-Men : Dark Phoenix” back to the competitive US Summer movie period. The Simon Kinberg-directed superhero jaunt, originally due Feb. 14, 2019, has been delayed to June 7, 2019.

Is the move a positive one? You’d think so, being that only the biggest and baddest of the studio blockbuster’s open at that time of the year. Some, however, are suggesting that Fox are merely pushing the film back [again] because they’re certain it’ll bomb and want to simply push it back in the wardrobe, buying time before visitors get a glimpse of their ugly charge.

In its new slot, the film opens against the “Secret Life of Pets” sequel and the new “Men in Black”, so it’ll have its work cut out for it.

The news of ”Dark Phoenix”’s shift comes just days after the first trailer for the film hit, touting its old February release date. The film had already been delayed a year so that the film could undergo extensive reshoots.

The flick will likely be Fox’s “X-Men” swansong, with Disney taking things over from hereon after. If all these date shuffles are because the latest film is a dog, it’s a damn shame someone didn’t euthanize the thing while it was still in script stage. The once victorious franchise deserves better.

Meantime, Fox have skedded an untitled “Deadpool” movie for 2018. There’s scuttlebutt that this might be a kid-friendly version of “Deadpool 2” – but that doesn’t make a lick of sense.
There’s also been a release date shift for “Battle Angel Alita” – which will now open in February, as opposed to December. That movie suggests a vote of no confidence over at the Fox compound.

The Murdock’s have also pushed back “X-Men” spinoff, ”Gambit” (which is said to be a ‘rom-com’ – according to reports that hit this week) from June 7, 2019 to March 13, 2020. That film is still without a director though, so it makes sense the shingle needs some more time on the clock to appoint a goalie.
