Director John Moore talks A Good Day to Die Hard

Good news for ‘Die Hard’ fans : John McClane won’t have as many shitty bits of word to vomit in this next one.

Determined to distance his film from Len Wiseman’s jokey “Live Free or Die Hard”, “A Good Day to Die Hard” director John Moore says his film moves the series back into serious terrain.
Speaking to Empire, Moore (“Behind Enemy Lines”) says he’s not having Bruce Willis play anything other than a a guy ‘in the wrong place in the wrong time’ in the new “Die Hard” movie. Superheroes aren’t welcome, especially those using their co-stars to bounce off ideas and jokes off in an effort to hone in their future Stand-Up routine.

There’s no corny jokes in “A Good Day to Die Hard”, says Moore, “because that’s preposterous! I don’t know whether it’s post-financial crash or whatever, but I don’t think people are in the mood for that bollocks anymore. People are well savvy to the cynical reheating of any product, any franchise. Any shit won’t do. The bar’s a bit higher… There are a couple of great gags and a couple of great McClanisms. It’s not like he’s this idiot, bumbling around Moscow making ‘America won the Cold War’ jokes. It’s not Carry On Die Hard, I can assure you…”

I like John Moore. He’s no McTiernan but I think most of us have forgotten how good “Behind Enemy Lines” was. The action sequences, look of the thing, and even the performance he managed to get out of Owen Wilson… was all quite good. If he can bring some of that to “Die Hard”, while remembering to also ‘bring the Die Hard’, the series may be on its way to redeeming itself after the “Live Free” debacle.

The film’s money-shot seems to be a long car chase sequence – always good.

“The scope along goes from New York to Moscow. It’s very, very international. There’s a car chase through Moscow that’s taking us 78 days to shoot. So… yeah. That should answer your question!”
