Edgar Wright to direct Grasshopper Jungle

Doesn’t sound like Edgar Wright’s sitting around and sulking about the whole “Ant-Man” fallout.

Last week it was announced that he (who has been replaced by Peyton Reed on the Marvel movie) has inked a deal to direct “Baby Driver” for Working Title Films, and now another project, Sony’s “Grasshopper Jungle”.

Based on the book by Andrew Smith, and being adapted by ”Beautiful Girls” scribe Scott Rosenberg, this one’s described as “Stand By Meet meets Attack the Block”. It fixes on “an Iowa teen trying to come to grips with his own raging hormones and sexual feelings as he and his cohorts cause a deadly genetically engineered plague that unleashes an army of 6-foot-tall praying mantises. Those bugs live the life these guys wish for, acting on an insatiable appetite for fighting, food, and fornicating”, according to Deadline, who had the scoop on Wright’s deal to direct the feature.

Rosenberg, ”Amazing Spider-Man”‘s Matt Tolmach and Wright-staple Nira Park will produce.
