First Deadwood movie footage hits

HBO smartly used the season finale of the well-received “True Detective” Season 3 to showcase some of their upcoming highlights – among them, the feature spin-off of David Milch’s cussing-cowboy epic “Deadwood”.

In the film, which reunites the cast of the Emmy-winning series (including Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane), the characters of the series are reunited after 10 years to celebrate South Dakota’s statehood. Former rivalries are reignited, alliances are tested and old wounds are reopened, as all are left to navigate the inevitable changes that modernity and time have wrought.

Milch wrote the feature with Daniel Minahan serving as director.

There’s also brief peeks at “His Dark Materials”, “Watchmen”, “Eurphoria” and other series heading to the cabler this year.

Rumored for release before mid-year, “Deadwood” is expected to be the first in a series of new movies based on the TV series.
