The first devastatingly dark poster from upcoming film “Maleficent” has hit the internet today courtesy of THR.
Featuring the stunning Angelina Jolie as the titular character, the “Sleeping Beauty” villain is shown gazing out from behind a dramatic black cape and wearing an elaborate headpiece reminiscent of Satan’s horns.
Despite the sinister nature of her character, Jolie’s flawless white skin, ruby-red lips and piercing eyes provide a captivating contrast against the rest of the poster’s black backdrop.
“Maleficent” will tell the story of the evil woman herself, focusing on her early life in which she vows to become her forest kingdom’s most ardent protector before suffering a soul-destroying betrayal that causes her to turn dark. Intent on revenge, she places a curse on the beautiful royal infant Aurora.
The film co-stars Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora, as well as Sharlto Copely and Juno Temple. Robert Stromberg has directed with Jolie, Don Hahn, Matt Smith, Palak Patel and Sarah Bradshaw producing.
“Maleficent” is set to swoop into cinemas on May 30, 2014.
