From Zombieland to Gangsterland

“Zombieland” director Ruben Fleischer is in talks to helm Warner Bros’ “Gangster Squad”, a hot “L.A Confidential”-esque crime caper that’s script is said to be one of the better reads around town at present.

Ben Affleck and Darren Aronofsky had both briefly flirted with the project.

The film, says Deadline, is based on a series of articles by Paul Lieberman and was scripted by Will Beall, a former South Central Los Angeles cop who wrote the novel ”L.A. Rex”.

Can’t help but think this’d be great for Fleischer. At the moment he’s known as the “Zombieland” guy, and if he rushed out and did the “Zombieland” sequel (which he won’t be; Emma Stone’s not available for quite a while, and he wants her back, naturally), he’d likely lose any clout he has at the moment. Nice little “Untouchables”-type crime flick could prove his worth.
