Gary Cole set for Good Wife spin-off

According to Deadline, TV vet Gary Cole – forever immortalized as that devilish sheriff in “American Gothic” – will be back on screens next February when he reprises his “Good Wife” role of Kurt McVeigh for the spin-off “The Good Fight”.

Cole, whose other TV credits include “The West Wing” and “Veep”, recurred for seven seasons on the original mothership series.

In the new series (the pilot of which will first air on CBS before moving to CBS All Access), an enormous financial scam has destroyed the reputation of a young lawyer, Maia, while simultaneously wiping out her mentor Diane Lockhart’s savings. Forced out of Lockhart & Lee, they join Lucca Quinn at one of Chicago’s pre-eminent law firms. Cush Jumbo and Sarah Steele are returning along with new cast members Rose Leslie, Delroy Lindo, Bernadette Peters and Paul Guilfoyle.

Cole’s Kurt McVeigh was married to Christine Baranski’s character Diane.
