George Miller to direct the next Superman movie!?

Now that Hollywood wants to ride the George Miller train again – following the bravura success of “Mad Max : Fury Road” earlier this year – it’s no surprise to hear the Aussie filmmaker is being offered some pretty huge movies.

Interestingly enough, a rumour surfaced a day or so back that Miller’s the front runner to direct the next “Superman” movie – a sequel to “Man of Steel”. Why that’s interesting is because Miller was originally set to direct a Superman film (of sorts) a few years back, the ill-fated “Justice League Mortal”, which would’ve teamed Kal-El with fellow comic book heroes Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Martian Manhunter. The money was lost and the film – which was only weeks away from filming – was no scrapped, almost overnight. Shame for not only D.J Cotrona, who was set to play the film’s Man of Steel, but Miller, who was apparently pretty passionate about what would’ve been his first big superhero movie.

Now, according to ‘’The Death of Super Man Lives’’ director John Schnepp, Warners is moving forward with another solo ‘Superman’ movie for Henry Cavill and they want Miller to direct it. “George Miller, he’s doing Man of Steel 2,” Schnepp said on DC Movie News show. “Obviously Zack Snyder is doing Justice League 1 and 2, we already got James Wan doing Aquaman – Waterman I think they should change the title– but yeah I think George Miller is a perfect choice to do Man of Steel 2, he’s going to bring so much to it.”

While it won’t be without his “Justice League Mortal” cast (in addition to Cavill, all of those other superhero slots – Batman, Wonder Woman and so on – are now filled) it’s likely Miller will bring with him some of his regulars costume and production dept heads, and maybe some of his favourite go-to actors (Hugh-Keays Byrne?) to fill supporting roles.

Before any “Man of Steel 2” hits the screens, “Batman v Superman : Dawn of Justice” – with Cavill as Supes – has to make money.
