A Rock’s usually solid, not in this case. And it’s not the first time the crude funny man has struck out. Chris may be a success as a stand-up artist but has never been able to quite crack cinema – he came close with “Lethal Weapon 4”, but most still say his best performance in a film is the one least like his known persona, and the one people don’t remember, “New Jack City” – with most of his movies either terribly untasteful or, in the case of “I Think I loved My Wife”, an out-and-out mess.

Is it a comedy? Is it a drama? Satire? Musical? “Who the fuck knows!?” laughs Rock in a pre-production meeting. “But sure as shit it’s gonna have some fuckin’ nice bitches in it!”.

He plays a successful Manhattan-based number-cruncher who’s “bored” with his “perfect” life. The wife (Gina Torres) isn’t putting out anymore, and even if she did, he doesn’t know whether he wants it anyway. As he tells the audience, he doesn’t even “want to look at her coming out of the shower anymore”.

When a sexy blast from the past (Kerry Washington) re-enters his life, the mixed-up muffin starts to pay her a little more attention than his family… and thus begins his downward spiral, and ultimate realisation that… he loves his wife.

Sounds sweet enough, and it might’ve been had someone bothered to come up with a decent script. This thing is languid, indecisive and only meekly funny. As for that dreary score? Turn it off! We’re already half-asleep!

Wanna know what to get the mean-ass boss for Christmas? How about a copy of “Down to Earth”, “Head of State”, & “Bad Company” on DVD, and an in-season pass to “I Think I love my wife”!? … the perfect revenge for keeping you back all hours of the night.
