Jordan, Hill for Def Jam Recordings biopic!?

Universal are hoping lightning strikes twice, moving into gear a follow-up to the financial and critical success “Straight Outta Compton”. The new film will be based on Def Jam Recordings and it’s co-founder Russell Simmons. “Creed” and “Fantastic Four” actor Michael B.Jordan has been mentioned as a possibility for Simmons, while “Wolf of Wall Street” and “21 Jump Street” star Jonah Hill is said to be an early tip for Rick Rubin.

Says Deadline, who have the scoop :

The film would be based on 2002’s Life and Def: Sex, Drugs, Money, + God, co-written by Simmons and Nelson George, which chronicles Simmons’ career, particularly the creation (with Rubin) of the legendary hip hop label that defined rap in the 80s. We’re told it would focus on the early years of Def Jam, and how hip hop grew from an underground sensation into a dominant and pivotal voice of culture and change.

A fictionalized version of the Def Jam label featured in the 1985 film “Krush Groove”.
