Katie Holmes to play Extra

Suri must be headed to Day Care. Katie Holmes has accepted an invitation to star opposite Kevin Kline and John C. Reilly in the comedy “The Extra Man”.

The New York-lensed flick marks Holmes’ first foray in front of a Nikon lens since the ill-fated “Mad Money”, released a year or so back (to lackluster reviews and even more disastrous reviews).

Based on the novel of the same name, the flick will be directed by Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman of “The Nanny Diaries” fame.

Kline plays a failed playwright who works as an escort for rich widows on the Upper East Side. He develops a mentor-student relationship with a troubled aspiring playwright (“There Will be Blood” star Paul Dano).

“This is a film for our times, these hilarious characters living on the edge of enormous wealth, scrapping for small pieces of the pie,” Bregman said. “I suspect a lot of people will be able to identify nowadays.”

Gotta say, it sounds an oink of a lot better than the squealer Holmes did with Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton.
