Umpteen years after Hollywood first attempted to bring to the screen the tale of rock singer Janis Joplin, Sean Durkin (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”) is going to take a stab.
According to Deadline, he might have even found himself a ‘Janis’ in talented thesp Michelle Williams.
Based on the book “Love, Janis”, that inspired the musical of the same name, this incarnation was at one time set to go with Nina Arianda.
A rival Joplin project, set to star Amy Adams, is also in the works – but it has some legal hiccups it’s encountered.
According to Deadline, Williams’ (“Brokeback Mountain”, “Take This Waltz”) has confirmed her interest in the project. Williams would play a role once eyed by the likes of Renee Zellweger, Pink and Lili Taylor (back in the ’90s).
