Out : Clooney, Gosling and Superpenners

In : Wahlberg and whoever else the other respective pics go with

A major game of musical chairs today with three major movies losing their leads- or playing cast switcheroo.

The biggest news to arise today is George Clooney’s departure from ”White Jazz”. If Clooney wasn’t the attachment that got the film the greenlight – and I’m guessing he was – he was definitely the main attraction for a lot of folks. It’s the second blow for director Joe Canahan in a week, with co-star Chris Pine also dropping out of the film (for the Kirk role in “Star Trek”).

Carnahan told readers on his blog that the former Caped Crusader flew out of “Jazz” because of his schedule. ‘’Rough weekend. I had a bad feeling after they pushed ‘Leatherheads’ to April because of the extensive post on that film that something was going to have to give. Also, George is neck deep in the Coen bros. film at the moment and trying to do ‘Michael Clayton’ press which will likely carry over into Awards season…SO…they wanted to see about pushing White Jazz back, which I really don’t want to do. I’ve been waiting awhile to make this one and I wasn’t content to sit on my hands.’Right now, (actually it began on friday) we’re in the process of trying to plug a guy into this movie that, if it works, would be pretty f*cking amazing. No, INCREDIBLY f*cking amazing, so we’ll see what happens.
No tears kids. This is the business. It happens all the time and you’ve got to have the balls and the ability to push past in spite of these setbacks. We march on.”

So who’s the new guy? I’m thinking it’d be someone of Clooney’s calibre… maybe even one of his buddies… say, Matt Damon or Brad Pitt.

Secondly, and dispelling reports that the “Superman Returns” sequel is on track (cough, cough *bullshit* cough), the writers of the first film, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris, have announced they won’t be coming back for the sequel. So, what that means is a) there is no script b) they have to find a writer c) don’t expect the film anytime soon. Variety says Brandon Routh is likely to reprise his role in the film – which is good for him, because I hear he’s hungry.

Ryan Gosling has dropped out of “The Lovely Bones” with Mark Wahlberg lined up to replace him, according to Variety. Gosling’s departure is surprising because not only did he drop out a day before shooting was to start but he’d just put on 20 pounds and grown a beard to play the part. After reading the script, says the trade, Wahlberg quickly committed Sunday. He joins Rachel Weisz as a couple whose world is shattered after their daughter is murdered. The girl watches over her family and her killer from heaven.
