“Pacific Rim” star Idris Elba will join Sean Penn and Javier Bardem for “The Gunman”, a Pierre Morel-directed action thriller being produced by Joel Silver (“Lethal Weapon”).
Based on the novel by Jean-Patrick Machette, “Gunman” the film has Penn in the guise of “an international operative who is betrayed by the organization he works for, forcing him into a game of cat and mouse across Europe.”
Elba, soon to be seen in Guillermo Del Toro’s big-budget blockbuster “Pacific Rim”, is playing a “mysterious operative named Dupont”.
Pete Travis (“Vantage Point”) wrote the screenplay for the film, which Studio Canal financed.
The movie is slated to begin shooting in Barcelona and other European locales later this month.
