Renner : I am not the new Snake Plissken

That “Escape from New York” remake just can’t cut a break!

(And no, I have not paid an old gypsy woman a sumly amount to slap a curse on it! Sheesh!)

First it loses Gerard Butler. Now it’s detracted Jeremy Renner…. not that it ever had him. According to the Oscar Nominated actor and future Avenger, he was never approached about playing the eye-patched adorned hero in the remake of John Carpenter’s 1981 classic, and couldn’t fit it in even if he wanted to.

“Someone told me about it and then I saw it online,” the actor tells MTV. “I was like, ‘That’s news to me as well.’ I didn’t know anything about it.”

Renner tells the site that, with “The Avengers” and “Mission : Impossible” franchises, he’s going to have a full plate for the next decade or so, so would be unwise to accept anything else of a similar ilk at the moment.

Hey, I’ve got a suggestion! Um, what about Kurt Russell!?

Breck Eisner (“The Crazies”) is currently attached to direct the movie, shooting from an Allen Loeb penned script.
