Resident Evil not dead yet

“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” wasn’t as final as it suggests, with Variety reporting that a six-movie reboot has been confirmed. German film company Constantin Film owns the rights to the franchise and produced all of its instalments, and chairman of the board Martin Moszkowicz confirmed at Cannes Film Festival that a reboot is in development.

Moszkowicz kept mum about all other details, such as plot, casting, director and how exactly it would fit into the current six-film franchise, but this is indeed exciting news for fans of the films, who may be mourning the end of “Resident Evil”. The final film left the story open-ended, with protagonist Alice releasing an anti-virus to eliminate the Zombies, and stating that her job was not quite done. However at this stage, we don’t know whether the films will pick up from this point, or will be a full re-do of the previous films.

The original series debuted in 2002, directed by Paul W.S Anderson, and was based on the Capcom video game. Milla Jovovich starred in all six films, and overall they have earned $1.2 billion to date, making it an extremely successful franchise – no wonder they want to give it another run.

Hopefully more details to follow.
