Schwarzenegger not a Sgt

Film to “Rock” on without him

Arnold Schwarzenegger may have been up for the lead role in “Sgt. Rock” twenty years ago – but he’s no longer in the mix. That’s what screenwriter John Cox, penner of the comic turn film of the same name, tells IGN today.

Says the site, “Before he became governor of California, the Austrian Oak had been attached to play Frank Rock. Previous drafts of the Rock screenplay had to explain the lead’s Eastern European accent and heritage. Not so anymore.

Cox informed IGN that Schwarzenegger is no longer attached to the project, and that the script was not written with any specific actor in mind. Certain actors have been discussed for the role and producer Joel Silver is said to be moving on that front. The project is currently out to actors and directors.”

How about Thomas Jane? He went and got pumped for the “Punisher” sequel – which he dropped out of – so he’s already as solid as timber. Saves the studio from hiring a trainer.
