The Fort Fisher Hermit (DVD)

Could be a Tobe Hooper produced slasher pic, but its not. In fact, ‘The Fort Fisher Herman’ isn’t so much a film to evoke the hairs on your neck from standing up on end, as it will instinctively widen your smile.

Could be a Tobe Hooper produced slasher pic, but its not. In fact, ‘The Fort Fisher Herman’ isn’t so much a film to evoke the hairs on your neck from standing up on end, as it will instinctively widen your smile.

A documentary based on Robert E. Harrill, The Fort Fisher Hermit, a man who spent a decade and a half living in the bush of North Carolina, ‘Hermit’ is an absorbing look into the life of a very compelling character – a man, living in the scrub, who became somewhat of a tourist attraction in the Fort Fisher area. The film also tackles the mysterious death of Harrill – something that the book never quite closed on.

With narration by Barry Corbin (remember “Northern Exposure”?), the intriguing documentary features interviews, photographs and some vintage film footage of the man himself, intertwined with a gripping narrative that tries to get the bottom of the renowned Carolina celebrity.

A unique and well-executed idea that sets a new standard for the investigative documentary.
