Tony Scott may direct 24 : The Movie

Filmmaker Tony Scott (whose range of slick, pop-infused hits include “Top Gun”, “Days of Thunder”, “True Romance” and “Crimson Tide”) may end up directing the feature film adaptation of TVs “24”.

Billy Ray (“Shattered Glass”) had been hired to write the screenplay for the film, but according to producer Howard Gordon, speaking to Assignmentx, Ray’s script wasn’t “wasn’t the right proposition. It wasn’t strong enough or compelling enough to the studio obviously to move ahead with it.”

Gordon said he’s heard that “Top Gun” director Scott may wish to bark orders at Kiefer Sutherland on a “24” movie.

”The movie is something that right now I’m not engaged or involved in. The rumors are that [director] Tony Scott has an idea that he is going to run it by or has run it by Kiefer Sutherland. I don’t know what the status of it is.”

You know what? I like that. “24” was a great show, but it was, like so many of Mr Scott’s films, pretty over punchy a lot of the time. For that reason, I think I could be a terrific match. The energy of “True Romance”, the tension of “Crimson Tide”, the cocky quick quips of “Top Gun”, the slow-mo, fog emerges to reveal superstar style sequences found in “Days of Thunder”, and the brutal action sequences of “Domino” and combine it into one.
