TV news : Suits season 9; Dead to Me season 2; Punky Brewster revival; Spongebob prequel

“Suits” season 9 will see the return of a familiar face, with Patrick J. Adams making a comeback. The season will be its final, Adams is to return in episode 5 of the 10-episode season. The episode will see his character Mike Ross get involved in a case that puts him toe to toe with Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and Samantha Wheeler (Katherine Heigl). Deadline notes this as his only confirmed involvement at this stage, but whispers are that he will make a return for the season (and series) finale.

Adams left the show after season 7 along with his TV-wife Rachel, played by Meghan Markle – who hasn’t been noted as making a return, but do we really expect her to?!

Season 9 of Suits will follow Harvey (Macht) and Donna (Sarah Rafferty) balance their relationship with work as they fight to salvage the firm’s tarnished reputation alongside their partners, Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman), Alex Williams (Dulé Hill), Katrina Bennett (Amanda Schull), and Samantha.

Popular Netflix series “Dead to Me” has been confirmed for a second season, with the dark comedy starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini to continue on from that cliffhanger season final. Created by Liz Feldman, “Dead to Me” centres on Jen (Applegate), a sardonic widow determined to solve her husband’s recent hit-and-run murder, and Judy (Cardellini) an optimistic free spirit who’s recently suffered her own tragic loss. When the two women meet at a support group, they become unlikely friends, despite their polar-opposite personalities. But as they bond over bottles of wine, Entenmann’s cookies and a shared affinity for The Facts of Life, Judy desperately tries to shield Jen from a shocking secret that could destroy her life as she knows it.

No word yet on when it will debut, but no doubt a lot of keen viewers out there ready for the second season!

Everyone get excited, “Punky Brewster” is making a comeback! A sequel to the 1984 NBC sitcom is in the works at UCP, with Soleil Moon Frye set to reprise her role as the titular character. The original multi-camera series, created by David W. Duclon, centered on Punky (Frye), a bright young girl raised by a foster dad (George Gaynes). In the multi-camera/hybrid reboot, Punky (Frye) is now a single mother of three trying to get her life back on track when she meets a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self.

The show ran for four seasons, and the latest one will be written and executive produced by Steve and Jim Armogida – with Frye to executive produce also. “Punky Brewster” will mark UPC’s first foray into multi-camera/family sitcoms.

Nickelodeon has given the greenlight to a 13-episode series spinoff of “Spongebobe Squarepants”, tentatively titled “Kamp Koral”. The series will break-away from the cartoon version, and be a CG-animated series, which serves as a prequel to “SpongeBob”. It introduces 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants during his summer at sleepaway camp.

“Kamp Koral” is the first spinoff to be greenlit at Nickelodeon, after president Brian Robbins announced it is developing for the first time ever spinoff projects for “SpongeBob SquarePants” characters.

Per Deadline, in the series, SpongeBob and his pals spend the summer building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral. SpongeBob SquarePants‘ Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller co-executive produce the prequel.
