Twilight’s Robert Pattinson to star in Akira movie?

Can I just say, and while I know nobody will take much notice of me because I’m a female, Robert Pattinson isn’t a bad actor. Sure, he doesn’t have much of an opportunity to convince anyone otherwise in the “Twilight” movies, I know, but if you’ve seen “Remember Me” or “Little Ashes”, you’ll understand any criticism with his performance in the earlier films should be probably aimed not at the actor, but the scriptwriters. Same deal with Natalie Portman and “Star Wars”.
It was rather sad to see the internet’s fiery response to Pattinson possibly playing Daredevil (which, I don’t believe, was ever the scoop it was meant to be – funny how these things get twisted and turned), as if he’s going to destroy the newly-announced reboot before it’s even started filming; even sadder to hear Pattinson acknowledging in one interview that the fanboys don’t like him and would probably go crazy if he took on such a role. Come on guys, give the guy a go!

Pattinson will have to put the gloves on if he accepts Warner Bros/Legendary Pictures offer to play Tetsuo in director Albert Hughes’ “Akira”, based on the Japanese novels. Deadline says he is on a shortlist of actors to play the lead role in the Leonardo Di Caprio produced project.

Also up for the Tetsuo role are new Spider-Man Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy, both of whom have recently popped their comic book movie cherries.

Deadline says the lead is expected to come from that group, so not a lot of competition there… good chance Pattinson will end up in the movie. Just accept it.

For the role of Kaneda, the script has been given to Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix, adds the site.

The film, which was recently rewritten by Steve Kloves, is gearing up for an August start.

Let’s wait until “Water for Elephants” comes out, and the reviews start to surface, before writing Robert Pattinson off as a pretty boy without talent.
