I’m not a die-hard fan – in fact, there’s not a lot of shows I can truly say I am addicted to these days – but I do have to admit, I understand what all the fuss is about.

Doctor, Doctor, Gimme the News…. I gotta, bad case of loving you!
Corny, I know, but so is “Grey’s Anatomy” – and if it were a website, I can’t see you pressing the back button on it. Right?
So what is it? What’s the attraction with this incredibly successful show? It’s definitely not the cheese (or is it?). No, I think it’s the writing. For a hospital dramedy – that revolves around the interns, nurses and doctors of a busy city hospital – this thing is relatively polished. Funny, Smart, Dramatic and sometimes rather touching (the season 2 finale is especially Kleenex-worthy), a lot of work has been put into making sure this doctors n’ nurses relationship jaunt isn’t summoned to the black hole of similar predecessors. With the work that’s been put into it, it’s managed to rise above being that – a similar product.
The performances are also a highlight. Comeback kid (well, he’s not so much a kid anymore) Patrick Dempsey (remember Ronald Miller?) shines as the slightly cocky but mostly likeable Derek aka ‘McDreamy’, whilst attractive newcomer Ellen Pompeo (you may remember her role from the Dustin Hoffman pic, “Moonlight Mile”?) dazzles as his on-off love interest, and anchor for the show, Meredith. Let’s not forget the terrific support cast either – Isaiah Washington, T.R Knight, Katherine Heigl, Sandra Oh, and Justin Chambers.
Season Two was a knockout season for the show – so much so that it walked away with a staggering 11 Emmy Nominations – with the storylines and characters becoming more intriguing by the episode.
At the end of the first season, Meredith and Derek’s (Dempsey) relationship came to an unexpected conclusion when his estranged wife, Addison, shows up at the hospital. To make matters worse, it’s revealed that she’s now working there.
Season Two picks up with Meredith and Addison having to get along – despite the fact that they’ve both been bumping uglies with the indecisive McDreamy. Solution? Meredith does the naughty with her all-too-innocent friend George (T.R Knight), who she doesn’t really ‘feel that way about’ – in turn, hurting him in due course. And McDreamy? Who does he choose? Well, that would be telling.
Other plot points of the season include a new love for Izzie (Heigl), Meredith’s mother being admitted to Seattle Grace with Alzheimers, and a couple of deaths – not necessarily all human.
