True Blood actor to play Spock’s father!

James Frain will star as “Sarek,” the famed father of “Spock”, on TV’s “Star Trek : Discovery”.

First introduced in the original Star Trek, “Sarek” has made multiple appearances throughout the franchise over the last five decades.

Star Trek, one of the most iconic and influential global television franchises, returns to television 50 years after it first premiered with “Star Trek : Discovery”. The series will feature a new ship, new characters, and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers. The series will premiere on the CBS Television Network with all subsequent episodes available on CBS All Access, the Network’s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service, and will be distributed concurrently by CBS Studios International on Netflix in 188 countries and in Canada on Bell Media’s Space channel and OTT service CraveTV.

Meanwhile, CBS has had to push back the premiere date, says Variety. Originally due to launch in May, some bumps in production will reportedly see the film premiere on a later date.

CBS have responded to the claims : “Production on ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ begins next week. We love the cast, the scripts and are excited about the world the producers have created. This is an ambitious project; we will be flexible on a launch date if it’s best for the show. We’ve said from the beginning it’s more important to do this right than to do it fast. There is also added flexibility presenting on CBS All Access, which isn’t beholden to seasonal premieres or launch windows.”
