Anson Mount, whose varied gigs include the likes of acclaimed TV drama “Hell on Wheels” and Britney Spears’ movie debut “Crossroads”, has snagged the lead role of Black Bolt in “Marvel’s Inhumans”.
“Inhumans” is coming to television after a lengthy development process at Marvel Studios’ film department, who originally envisioned it being a part of their next slate of bigscreen superhero ventures. Vin Diesel was at one stage flirting with the idea of playing Black Bolt.
“Marvel’s Inhumans” will explore the never-before-told epic adventure of the royal family including Black Bolt, the enigmatic, commanding King of the Inhumans, with a voice so powerful that the slightest whisper can destroy a city.
It was previously announced that a version of the first two episodes of the new ABC series will premiere exclusively in IMAX(R) theatres for a two-week window in September 2017, prior to the 8-episode network run.
“Marvel’s Inhumans,” were first introduced in Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965. Since that time, they have grown in prominence and become some of the most popular and iconic characters in the Marvel Universe.
“Anson loves the challenge of playing a character who will only communicate silently,” said Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television and Executive Producer. “His enthusiasm mixed with his imposing almost regal persona made it easy to see why he is our Black Bolt.”
Added executive producer and showrunner Scott Buck, “Black Bolt is a character whose deep complexity must be conveyed without uttering a single word, and I’m very excited to have Anson on board to bring him to life.”
Marvel recently announced that Iwan Rheon (“Game of Thrones,” “Misfits” “Vicious”) will portray Maximus, a clever and charming Inhuman that is fiercely devoted to the people of Attilan, especially his brother, Black Bolt -though he harbors an intense desire to wear the crown himself.
