Rocko’s Modern Life coming back

If you tell me you’re too young to remember this show, I may just cry. “Rocko’s Modern Life” was a weird yet wonderful animated TV program on Nickelodeon many moons ago, screening 52 episodes from 1992 – 1996. It was one of those uniqe programs that was aimed at kids, yet had raunchy adult jokes snuck in that slipped past the censors.

Rocko was a wallaby who lived in O-Town after emigrating from America to Australia. He was accomanied by his mates Spunky, his dog, and best friend Heffer, who was a steer. Other characters included Chuck, Really Really Big Man, Filburt Turtle, Maitre D’, Ed Bighead, Bev Bighead, Mrs Fathead and so many more.

Now that you know the brief history, here’s the good news: Nickelodeon is bringing Rocko and his mates back! They’ve officially announced a one-hour TV special featuring all the original voice cast. The special will be titled “Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling” and will see the gang embrace new technology in modern day. Per the network: “Heffer and Filburt embrace every aspect of new technology, social media and the endless diversity of food trucks, [while] Rocko whole-heartedly believes his nostalgia for the past can save him from the tortures of the modern world.”

Alongside the original voice cast, a couple of newbies will be added including Cowboy (Steve Little) and Pillow Salesman (Cosmo Segurson). One can only hope that I too have the credit of “Pillow Salesman” to my name.

Original returning voice cast include: Carlos Alazraqui (The Fairly OddParents) as Rocko, Spunky, and Leon; Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Heffer Wolfe, Chuck, and Really Really Big Man; Mr. Lawrence (SpongeBob) as Filburt Turtle and Maitre D’; Charlie Adler (Blaze and the Monster Machines) as Ed Bighead, Bev Bighead, Mr. Dupette, Grandpa Wolfe, and Mrs. Fathead; Linda Wallem (Nurse Jackie) as Aunt Gretchen and Dr. Hutchinson; Jill Talley (SpongeBob) as Nosey and Joe Murray as Ralph. The show is set to screen in 2018. I’m gonna be singing the theme song constantly until then. If you’re not familiar:
