The Final Destination series dead? Not so fast!

The “Final Destination” films made money. Teens dug them. The franchise has legs internationally. And the films are so well known that anytime one of us drives behind a truck carrying a horde of logs, we sprinkle our underoos.

It makes no sense why New Line Cinema hasn’t bankrolled a sixth film in the well-crafted ensemble horror series. Well it did make shit-all sense, but now that franchise staple Tony Todd has offered up his explanation, you can understand why we haven’t seen “The Final Final Destination of Destinations”.

Speaking to Bloody Disgusting, the legendary thesp – who played the mortician in the films – believes New Line simply doesn’t need the “Final Destination” films because they can make James Wan-style horror movies, like “The Conjuring” and “The Nun”, for far less money and do just as gangbuster business.

“It’s really an expensive film to shoot. Just getting whatever accident set pieces, like for example part two with the whole traffic accident, that took a good five weeks to shoot and at least 20 million bucks. So there are other films like the Annabelle films which just focuses on a doll that they can shoot for a lot cheaper and still make money.”

Todd, promoting his new film “Hell Fest”, thinks the “ship has sailed” on the series of films which helped cement the film careers of such actors as Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ryan Merriman, James Marsters, Seann William Scott, Haley Webb and Emma Bell.

But he mightn’t have heard the latest…

The site added that they’ve heard otherwise – suggesting a reboot of “Final Destination” might indeed be on the way.

Interesting…

Speaking of “Final Destination”, I’d like to take a moment to pay tribute to the late, great David R. Ellis, who directed the very solid sequel “Final Destination 2”, and sadly passed away on this day in 2013.  David was not only a wonderful guy, and big supporter of the online community, but a really talented guy. He’s the guy who blessed us with those logger truck nightmares, after all. David, you’re sorely missed.
