Paramount sells The Lovebirds to Netflix due to the theater closures

Netflix has taken on the Media Rights Capital/Paramount comedy “The Lovebirds”, which was originally set to hit theaters April 3 before the Corona outbreak.

Like several other titles, the Michael Showalter directed film was pulled from release after the pandemic kicked in. There is no set release date for the film on Netflix, Deadline say though that the deal is still being papered so expect an announcement once that’s in ink.

The trade hears that Netflix will have the global rights to the film, which stars Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae as a couple who experience a defining moment in their relationship when they are unintentionally embroiled in a murder mystery.

The film was originally set to premiere at SXSW before the city of Austin pulled the pin on this year’s fest due to the Coronavirus.
