Harrison Ford and Abigail Breslin Join Ender’s Game

Well, that didn’t take long. Last we heard on the “Ender’s Game” casting news was that “True Grit” star Hailee Steinfeld was in talks to play Petra Arkanian, the only girl in Salamander Army who quickly becomes Ender’s ally and trusted right hand, in the film version of the Orson Scott Card novel while Harrison Ford was also being courted for a role in the film.

Seems that negotiations went through just fine and OddLot Entertainment has gotten their wish because both Harrison Ford as well as Hailee Steinfeld and Abigail Breslin have joined the film.

Set in Earth’s utopian future, “Ender’s Game” stars Asa Butterfield (“Hugo”) as the title character, a genius strategist who’s recruited by the government to help destroy an insect-like alien race.

Variety reports that Ford will play Colonel Hyram Graff, who’s in charge of training the young male recruits at an elite military academy. Breslin will play Valentine Wiggin, Ender’s older sister, while Steinfeld will play Petra Arkanian, Ender’s ally and trusted right hand.

“X-Men: Origins” helmer Gavin Hood is directing the film, which is scheduled to come out on March 15, 2013.

As for supporting cast members, that includes Aramis Knight, Moises Arias, Jimmy “Jax” Pinchak, Suraj Parthasarathy, Conor Carroll and Khylin Rhambo.

Knight, who previously appeared in Hood’s “Rendition,” will play Bean, the smallest new recruit; Arias (“Hannah Montana”) will play Bonzo, the commander of Salamander Army; Pinchak (“Let Me In”) will play Peter Wiggin, Ender’s brilliant but tortured older brother; and Parthasarathy will play Alai, the first recruit to befriend Ender.
