Burying the Ex

”Gremlins” director Joe Dante returns to the horror-comedy arena with this silly, splatastic laffer about a young man who just can’t seem to get rid of his obsessive zombie girlfriend.

Anton Yelchin plays Max, a young man – obsessed with campy horror movies – who works in a shop that sells horror movie collectibles. Max has decided it’s time to break up with his overbearing girlfriend (Ashley Greene of Twilight) but before Max can call it quits with the kooky Evelyn, she’s hit and killed by a truck. After a short mourning period, Max finds love with another (Alexandra Daddario) …just as his dead girlfriend is emerging from her grave to reclaim her man.

A homage to some of the classic B-movies of yesteryear, with a refreshing dose of topicality thrown in for good measure, “Burying the Ex” isn’t the instant classic that a lot of Dante’s earlier films (which also included “Explorers” and “InnerSpace”) were, but it’s still definitely worth a spin.
