Caffeinated Clint
With filming expected to kick off in the coming days, we’ll be hearing a lot of bibs and bobs – likely pertaining to casting – about the first of the upcoming “Star Wars” spin-off films, “Rogue One”.
The flick, from “Godzilla” helmer Gareth Edwards, fixes on a group of resistance leaders that hatch a plan to steal the plans to the Death Star (yep, Darth Vader will make an appearance). Those familiar with 1977’s “Star Wars” (later subbed ‘A New Hope’) will know that their mission was successful, but this here pic will explore just how difficult a task it was for the troupe to outsmart the man in black and get their hands on that blueprint.
In terms of the characters, most of the core team are said to be new names to the franchise. One, however, might have a connection to one of the series’ most popular villains.
According to Meet The Movie Press (more specifically, oft-reliable scooper El Mayimbe), rising young starlet Felicity Jones (“Like Crazy”, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”, “The Theory of Everything”) may be playing the daughter of hard-shelled rogue Boba Fett.
If true, how would Ms Fett figure into the story? Maybe she teams with the rebels to steal the libretto? Or, perhaps she’s on a mission to snag the Death Star plans for herself (and her devilish pop)?
“Rogue One” will also feature artistes Ben Mendelsohn, Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna, Sam Claflin and Forest Whitaker – and nothing on who they’re playing yet.
