When a show is removed from a network’s schedule – regardless of the excuse given in the presser – it generally means that the offering is being shown the door. And it’s again the case with NBC’s “The Michael J.Fox Show” which we all assumed had been cancelled, but today had it confirmed by the network.
Hyped as one of 2013’s big new sitcoms, “The Michael J.Fox Show” struggled in the ratings from the get-go; coupled with Sean Hayes’ (also cancelled) “Sean Saves the World” sitcom on Thursday nights, the show wasn’t pulling anywhere near the numbers the network had hoped. The show, which starred Fox as a news anchor with Parkinson’s disease, was yanked from the air after 15 episodes; 7 episodes of the show – one episode reunites Fox with his “Back to the Future” co-star Christopher Lloyd – remain unaired.
Some blame the day and time slot the show was given, others blame the writing. Whatever the case, it just didn’t work.
Fox has now returned to CBS where he’s back on “The Good Wife”, but there’s a fair chance he’ll be back full-time in something else again soon.
