Steven Spielberg announced a while back that he’d be bringing Stanley Kubrick’s last unproduced screenplay to the screen; today, news that Baz Luhrmann is being courted to direct the mini-series.
Deadline says the project is based on Napoleon Bonaparte, the squat French conqueror, and it’s proposed to be HBO’s highest-profile miniseries ever.
Kubrick’s project, coined ‘the greatest movie never made’, was rejected by every Hollywood studio in town, who refused to bankroll it.
Though he was once attached to an ‘Alexander the Great’ biopic (of which Leonardo DiCaprio was attached), the series would be Luhrmann’s first historical bio project.
