Fox – soon to fall under the Disney umbrella – have announced new release dates for several of their big superhero talents.
Firstly, and most astonishingly, “X-Men” film “The New Mutants”, originally due to release in April of this year, has been pushed back a whole year. It will now open Feb 22, 2019.
With the promotional campaign for the film already in full swing, the big question is ‘why?’ Heat Vision says ‘’one reason for the change is for the studio to avoid having an overlap with X-Men movies in certain overseas marketplaces, where ‘’Mutants’’ and ‘’Deadpool 2’’ would have been in theaters at the same time’’, while The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez has heard the Josh Boone directed film is being delayed “because the film isn’t scary enough.”
Considering the film is supposed to be more of a horror film, than a superhero piece, that’s troubling. No doubt some reshoots can fix it.
In better news, Fox has decided to bring forward the “Deadpool” sequel from June 1 to May 18.
Last but not least, the long-gestating “Gambit” has been pushed back – likely to find a new director and give him some time to craft it his way; Gore Verbinski has exited the project- from Feb. 14, 2019, to June 7, 2019. Channing Tatum is still attached to play the lead.
