Bourne Identity and Sexy Beast TV spin-offs in the works

Small-screen takes on the “Bourne” series and Ben Kingsley-thriller “Sexy Beast” are in the works.

USA Network has given a straight-to-series order to drama “Treadstone”, an offshoot from Universal’s Bourne franchise, from ”Heroes” creator Tim Kring and Universal Cable Productions.

According to Deadline, “Treadstone” was originally announced as a pilot order on USA’s 2018 slate in April but will now bypass the pilot stage and go straight to series.

The Kring-written series “explores the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Operation Treadstone — a covert program that uses behavior-modification protocol to turn recruits into nearly superhuman assassins. The first season follows sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously “awakened” to resume their deadly missions.”

“Sexy Beast”, the cult 2000 British gangster movie starring Ray Winstone, Ben Kingsley and Ian McShane, will spawn a prequel TV series. Anonymous Content and Paramount Television have acquired the rights to the movie with plans to tell the “story of up-and-coming criminal Gal Dove as he forms a partnership with Don Logan, starts working for criminal mastermind Teddy Bass and meets and falls in love with adult film star DeeDee — his future wife. Gal is a brilliant thief and Don is a vicious gangster, and the series will explore the pair’s complicated relationship as Gal finds himself descending into the seductive madness of the London criminal world during the vibrant and volatile 1990’s.”

“Sopranos” alum Michael Caleo will write the adaptation.
