Peter Segal, of “Get Smart” and “Fifty First Dates” fame, will direct STXfilms’ action-comedy “My Spy” starring Dave Bautista.
Ben Hardy (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) has joined Michael Bay’s “6 Underground”, the Netflix action film that stars Ryan Reynolds and Dave Franco, among others. The action film, airing on Netflix next year, is based on an original idea from writers and executive producers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
The “Guardians of the Galaxy” cast have released an open letter confirming their support of James Gunn after he was let go from the franchise last week.
“Hellboy” star Selma Blair has signed on for a role in Jenny Gage’s “After”, the film adaption of Anna Todd’s fan-fiction bestseller, which is currently shooting in Atlanta. The plot centers on Tessa, a dedicated student, dutiful daughter and loyal girlfriend to her high school sweetheart as she enters her first semester in college. Her guarded world opens up when she meets the dark and mysterious Hardin Scott, a magnetic, brooding rebel who makes her question all she thought she knew about herself and what she wants out of life.

Upon the announcement that previously unseen footage of Carrie Fisher from “The Force Awakens” will be used to resurrect Leia for “Star Wars IX”, co-star Mark Hamill has posted a poignant message on socials.

According to Simon Pegg, the next “Star Trek” film will be the one incorporating Chris Hemsworth’s George Kirk – not the Quentin Tarantino “Trek”. “I’ve met with S.J. [Clarkson] and she’s fizzing with ideas and she has the right attitude. She’s reverent but she’s not slavish. In terms of the story, I have a vague knowledge but it’s nothing I can talk about… Quentin’s idea is another thing. He came in to Bad Robot and pitched it and it’s been put in the bank. I think he had us in mind when he came up with the idea; he likes the new cast. But he’s going to be so busy with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood that I can’t see him doing it for five or six years, by which time we might be too old anyway.”
On a panel this week for Eli Roth’s new “History of Horror” series, ‘Freddy’ portrayer Robert Englund told attendees his idea for an “Elm Street” reboot – one that he might even be able to be a part of. “If I had an Eli Roth budget I would have cast different actors to play Freddy for every potential victim, because Freddy is only alive in the imagination of his future victim. They would talk about it at a slumber party or in a locker room at school, or on the bus going home. All we know about this Fred Krueger is he wears a hat, wears a red and green striped sweater and has a clawed hand. That’s the specifics. At the end, it would be the ultimate victim and we see Freddy peel [his face] open and maybe it’s yours truly revealed. And it’s the essence of Freddy. I don’t think Freddy is an ’80s villain. There’s a huge nostalgia for the eighties for a variety of reasons, but so many horror films and characters transcend that decade.”
A “Demolition Man” starring Meryl Streep was at one stage in the works, the co-writer of the 1993 film, Daniel Waters, revealed on the Projection Booth podcast. “I get a call from Joel. ‘What do you think of this? Meryl Streep is Stallone’s daughter for the sequel. What do you think?’ I’m like ‘Okay, you get Meryl on the set and I’ll come out.’”
