Seems Jigsaw’s murderous rampage is far from over. With last year’s “Saw” sequel “Jigsaw” pulling in a sumly $103 million no surprise to hear Twisted Pictures are keen to keeping the killing spree going. According to Bloody Disgusting, its merely a “conversation” at the moment, but one thing that seems to be certain is that Michael and Peter Spierig won’t be back to direct.

J.J. Abrams has written a new sci-fi drama television series that’s found itself playing the rope in a game of tug-of-war between Apple and HBO. The two big-wigs are keen to acquire the project, said to revolve around the world battling against a monstrous, oppressive force. The project, which Abrams would also co-produce, is the first he has written since “Fringe” (2008).

Apple has cast Kristen Wiig in their first scripted comedy pickup. The ten-episode half-comedy, which will star and be executive produced by the former “SNL” star, is inspired by Curtis Sittenfeld’s upcoming short-story collection “You Think It, I’ll Say It”. No plot details available at this time. Colleen McGuinness (“30 Rock”) created the series and serves as showrunner. Reese Witherspoon is one of the producers on the project.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead has beat out Tatiana Maslany for the female lead in Ang Lee’s sci-fi thriller “Gemini Man” starring Will Smith. Filming is slated to begin next month on the film, which tells of an an ageing assassin intent on retirement who takes on his ultimate opponent – a clone who is 25 years younger and at the peak of his abilities. Winstead plays an operative who has been assigned to track Smith’s character.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will appear in Sony’s “Venom” movie. Filmmaker Jon Schnepp (“The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?”) tells Collider’s Movie Talk : “Spider-Man is going to be in Venom. For the last couple of months, we’ve been hearing how Sony is keeping it all separated, and Spider-Man is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but every other character that’s in the Spider-Man universe is separate. All I’m saying is that Spider-Man – and I’m talking about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man – is going to be in Venom.”

Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer are reuniting for a holiday comedy. Following a heated bidding war, Universal has snagged the rights to the laffer, which reunites the stars of “The Help”.Chastain and Kelly Carmichael wrote the original treatment and “Crazy Rich Asians” scribe Peter Chiarelli is on board to pen the script.

Amazon has cancelled three of it’s series, Kevin Bacon starring “I Love Dick,” Tig Notaro’s “One Mississippi” and Van Damme’s “Jean Claude Van Johnson”. Meanwhile, Viacom has cancelled its fantasy series “The Shannara Chronicles,” after two seasons.

Finn Wolfhard (“IT,” “Stranger Things”) has joined Warner and Amazon Studio’s “The Goldfinch”. Based on the novel of the same name, and directed by John Crowley, the film stars Angsel Elgort as a young man who loses his mother in a museum bombing and is taken in by a wealthy family, only to be drawn into New York City’s art underworld. Wolfhard has nabbed the key role of Young Boris, a Ukrainian student and troublemaker who bonds with Theo due to their both having lost their mothers and who introduces him to drugs and alcohol.

TV vets Hector Elizondo and Holland Taylor have been cast in NBC pilot “Guess Who Died” for Norman Lear and Peter Tolan. The series is based on Lear’s personal experiences and described as a humorous and inspiring look at the shared joys and challenges we all experience at any stage of life. “The comedy is set in the Las Esperanzado Senior Community in Palm Springs. It centers on Murray (Elizondo), a retired music executive who is positive and upbeat with sparkling eyes and a keen, sharp and wonderful sense of humor. After the death of his beloved wife, he realizes he’s fallen in love with his sister-in-law, Patricia, a former American Airlines flight attendant, who can be a little too proper at times, but she’s sharp as a tack with a great sense of humor.” (Deadline)
