Carpenter wanted for Big Trouble remake!

Dwayne Johnson was as intrigued by the responses to last week’s news that he’ll be headlining a remake of ’80s classic “Big Trouble in Little China” as we were to hear it. The big guy ostensibly noticed John Carpenter’s response to it too- which is why the “San Andreas” star says he wants the director of the 1986 classic to get involved.

“I loved reading the reactions from the fans, that they were so polarized – I’m the same way”, Johnson tells EW. “My response is: know that I come to the project with nothing but love and respect for the original, which is why we want to bring on John Carpenter.”

Fox don’t have to hire Carpenter though, let alone consult him on this because it’s one of the few of his films that didn’t actually write. Still, Johnson – as we all do – can’t separate Carpenter from “Big Trouble”.

“I loved the original when I was younger and I loved the main character – all the characters. It felt like if we surrounded ourselves with the right group of people, the right writers who loved the movie too and wanted to honor it, bring on John Carpenter in some capacity… If we did that, then we have a shot at hopefully making something good. Let’s see what feels good, what we can come up with and then go from there. As we write it, if the whole thing starts to stink up, then we thank everybody for their efforts and accept this just couldn’t make it.”

shley Miller and Zack Stentz (“X-Men: First Class”) are penning the script for the remake, which Johnson reprises Kurt Russell’s iconic role of Jack Burton.
