Casting: Wood, Gilmore Girls Kitsch, Jacobs Ladder, The Tick

Elijah Wood will star in BBC America‘s comedic thriller series “Dirk Gently”, based on the books by Douglas Adams.

From writer/director Max Landis, “Dirk Gently” follows the bizarre adventures of eccentric “holistic” detective Dirk Gently and his reluctant assistant Todd (Wood), as they wend their way through one big, seemingly insane mystery a season, crossing unlikely paths with a bevy of wild and sometimes dangerous characters, each episode landing them a few random steps closer to uncovering the truth.

He’s not a sidekick. Todd’s just flat out better than Dirk at a lot of things. He always attempts to solve matters with the fewest steps possible; despite being a compassionate, sweet, smarter-than-average man with biting wit, Todd often finds himself at the intersection of morally gray crossroads. Thus, his bad habits of lying and stealing have dire consequences that he can’t put off forever, even though he tries. Todd’s not a bad person. He’s not a good person yet, either, but he’ll get there.

Eight 60-minute episodes will premiere this fall.

Mae Whitman will make a cameo in Netflix’s “Gilmore Girls” revival.

Character details remain under wraps, but according to TVLine, “she shares a really fun (albeit small) moment with [her “Parenthood co-star” Lauren] Graham that will delight Parenthood fans.”

A number of original “Gilmore Girls” cast members are returning for the revival, including Graham (Lorelai), Alexis Bledel (Rory), Scott Patterson (Luke), Kelly Bishop (Emily), Jared Padalecki (Dean), Milo Ventimiglia (Jess), Matt Czuchry (Logan), David Sutcliffe (Christopher), Liza Weil (Paris), Sean Gunn (Kirk), Keiko Agena (Lane), Yanic Truesdale (Michel) and Vanessa Marano (April).

Taylor Kitsch is on board to produce, direct, write and star in indie crime drama “Pieces”.

Based on his short film of the same name, “Pieces” is set in Detroit and follows three best friends whose lives change forever when they intercept a drug run.

Michael Ealy has boarded director David M. Rosenthal’s “Jacob’s Ladder” reboot.

The “re-imagining” of the 1990 supernatural thriller is described as “a modern-day paranoid action thriller about two brothers” (via Deadline).

Jeff Buhler and Sarah Thorp penned the script.

Peter Serafinowicz (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) will play the titular role in Amazon’s reboot of “The Tick”.

Based on the comics created by Ben Edlund (who will write and exec produce the new series), “the reboot is bringing back the eponymous muscle-bound, antennae-sporting superhero (Serafinowicz). In the new incarnation, the blue-suited Tick is recovering from a memory loss and ends up reteaming with his sidekick Arthur (Griffin Newman) to fight evil. The two are surrounded by a new host of characters that include Arthur’s sister Dot (Valorie Curry)” (via Deadline).

Wally Pfister is directing the pilot.
