At Comic-Con’s Dark Horse panel earlier today, the profoundly talented Joss Whedon announced that his webseries “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” – which he produced in the Writer’s strike a couple of years ago; it has since gone on to become a top-selling DVD and internet sensation that’s fanbase biggens by by the hour – will be broadcast on Television this year.
The CW, the original home of Whedon’s “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer” (well, technically ‘The WB’ was the original home but a name change isn’t that, a name change), will screen “Dr Horrible” on an undetermined date later this year.
Whedon didn’t offer any indication when the program, a musical featuring the likes of Nathan Fillion and Neil Patrick Harris, might air nor whether the network may want to do further instalments of it (or pay for the soon-to-shoot sequel, originally intended, like the first, to also premiere on the web) just that those that haven’t had an opportunity to log onto the web in the past three or four years will be able to catch a singing Malcolm Reynolds on the box at long last.
“Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” features Neil Patrick Harris (”How I Met Your Mother”) as Billy, A.K.A. Dr. Horrible, a budding super-villain whose plans for world domination continually go awry. His two goals: getting accepted into the Evil League of Evil, and working up the guts to speak to his laundromat crush Penny, played by Felicia Day (”The Guild”).

An aspiring supervillain discovers that taking over the world is no easy task while attempting to get accepted into the Evil League of Evil and summoning the courage to finally make conversation with his laundromat crush. Better known to the world as “Dr. Horrible,” Billy (Neil Patrick Harris) has big plans for world domination, though they never seem to pan out. If Billy could just accomplish his duel goals of gaining entry into the most exclusive supervillain club in the world and finally break the ice with pretty Penny (Felicia Day), perhaps people would start taking him seriously as a diabolical mad genius. The only thing preventing Billy from realizing his one true destiny as a destroyer of worlds is his arch nemesis Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion), an irritating do-gooder who thwarts him at every turn, and seems to have an eye on Penny as well. But Billy’s got a plan, and if it all goes right he’ll soon be sitting pretty in the E.L.E. with Penny by his side, and rid of pesky Captain Hammer once and for all
