Devil’s Knot

The movie itself mightn’t be all cylinders firing but thankfully Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth are excellent in this dramatization of the West Memphis murder case of the early ‘90s, in which three nonconformist teenagers were sentenced — and one condemned to death — in the murder of three young kids. There were a couple of documentaries made about the subject which helped establish the teen’s innocence, who were freed after 18 years behind bars.

The slow-moving, punch-less pic picks up at the end of the trial, with Firth playing an investigator wary of the community’s haste to judgement, and Witherspoon playing the parent of one of the victims.

If you don’t much about this case (it’s a compelling one), it’s worth a watch. But there’s also Wikipedia – where you’ll likely learn more.
