Three young guys, one of whom can sprout facial hair more expressively and effortlessly than the other two, are teaming for a new Animal Trafficking film at Warners.
Tobey Maguire, Leonardo Di Caprio and Tom Hardy are producing an animal poaching drama for the studio, the idea of which gestated in Hardy’s noggin. The project has been likened to Steven Soderberg’s “Traffic”, but instead of Catherine Zeta Jones you’d have a scared cougar, and instead of Michael Douglas you’d have a beast, stalked, in the middle of breeding season – so, erm, not much diff at all then.
The Hollywood Reporter has a more succinct version of the plot.
In this case, the story would look at everything from the ground war on poachers in the African savanna to how animal material ends up in the fashion houses of Paris. It’s unclear whether DiCaprio, Maguire or Hardy would act in the movie.
The trio, big animal lovers, are on the hunt – bad choice of words – for a writer.
DiCaprio and Maguire, who have been buddies since Mortal Kombat first hit the Sega Genesis, next appear in the film “Great Gatsby” for Warner; Hardy, fresh from WB’s “Dark Knight Rises”, headlines the studio’s “Mad Max Fury Road”. As Bugs Bunny will attest, once Warner like you – they’ll always like you, and it’s much easier to pitch a tent when you’ve got someone helping to hold up the tarp.
Good idea this one though. And I tell ya, knowing how passionate Hardy must be about the subject – – I’d hate for any of you hunters or poachers to have a run-in with that hulking fellow out in the woods. So retire your rifle now, punks.
